My point is I think it makes sense to decouple the two decisions from one another or make the Supreme Court at least less salient in voter decisions.

Making electing judges so crucial during an election cycle heightens polarization a lot, making each election feel like life or death (and this intersects with the increasingly large topics that the Supreme Court is forced to decide).

Separating the two decisions by making judge selections from a merit committee or at least adding term limits, reducing the stakes of each election, allowing voters to better focus on other issues, which are arguably more suited for the role of elected officials (especially in congress).
